Le Projet d\u2019empathie du CEJC consiste \u00e0 \u00e9laborer des programmes qui encouragent des comp\u00e9tences saines d\u2019empathie en examinant l\u2019impact sur les victimes. Ces programmes, qui ont lieu dans les prisons, ont pour objectif de soutenir la r\u00e9insertion sociale et d\u2019am\u00e9liorer la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 communautaire, en aidant les d\u00e9tenus \u00e0 acqu\u00e9rir de pr\u00e9cieuses comp\u00e9tences gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 une formation en compassion et en empathie, et l\u2019enseignement du savoir-faire culturel et des barri\u00e8res culturelles. Ils visent aussi \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper une solide compr\u00e9hension de la responsabilit\u00e9 personnelle \u00e0 la suite de dommages r\u00e9sultant d\u2019actes criminels et \u00e0 d\u00e9terminer leur impact sur les victimes primaires, secondaires et communautaires.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/G3Lb6pIjrxo\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>\u00c9l\u00e9ments du Projet d\u2019empathie du CEJC<\/h3>\n<p><strong>*\u00a0\u00ab\u2009Am\u00e9liorer l\u2019empathie pour les victimes et les familles des d\u00e9linquants\u2009\u00bb<\/strong><strong>\u00a0:<\/strong> Avec l\u2019appui de S\u00e9curit\u00e9 publique Canada, le CEJC a supervis\u00e9 durant l\u2019hiver\u00a02016 un projet de formation des b\u00e9n\u00e9voles et des aum\u00f4niers de prison pour que ceux-ci puissent organiser des programmes d\u2019impact sur les victimes dans les prisons f\u00e9d\u00e9rales canadiennes. Elle aide les gens \u00e0 surmonter une vision \u00e9gocentrique du monde. Un d\u00e9ficit en empathie entra\u00eene une certaine agression et constitue l\u2019un des principaux ingr\u00e9dients des relations dysfonctionnelles. Le Projet d\u2019empathie propose aux d\u00e9tenus un programme \u00e9ducatif qui se concentre sur l\u2019impact de leur crime sur les autres. CCJC\u2019s Empathy Project consists developing and piloting programs that promote empathy through an examination of victim impact. These programs \u2013 to be\u00a0run in prisons and in the community \u2013 aim to improve community safety by helping to integrate incarcerated people into the community while holding them accountable for the harm done by their crimes.<\/p><h3>Elements of CCJC's Empathy Project<\/h3><ul><li style=\"list-style-type: none;\"><ul><li><strong><span style=\"color: #339966;\">*\"Enhancing\u00a0Empathy for Victims and Families of Offenders\"\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0With support from Public Safety Canada, in winter 2016 CCJC is overseeing\u00a0a project to train prison volunteers and chaplains to run victim impact programs in federal prisons across Canada. This project\u00a0will\u00a0increase the capacity of\u00a0victim impact programs in Canada, and will also help us learn more about how these programs affect participants, with a specific eye toward measuring participants' interest in family reconciliation and their interest in restorative justice opportunities.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>*<a style=\"color: #339966;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=TAMH85NVgqc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">'Seeing Through the Bars'<\/a> panel discussion<\/strong><\/span>: In April, 2015, CCJC hosted a discussion on Victim Impact Programs in prisons featuring Kathryn Bliss (CCJC Education and Community Engagement Coordinator), Kate Johnson (Victim Impact Facilitator), Steve Sullivan (Victims Advocate), and Schuyler Playford (CCJC Victim Impact Project Manager). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=h9AVUDjNgXg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here<\/a> to view a short teaser from the panel discussion. A video of the whole discussion is available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=TAMH85NVgqc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/li><li><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>*Victim Impact Pilot Project<\/strong><\/span>: <a href=\"http:\/\/ccjc.ca\/vip-pilot-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here <\/a>to learn about CCJC's 2014-15 pilot project with men in a federal prison.<\/li><li><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>*Victim Impact Program for Women<\/strong><\/span>: With support from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wicc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Women's Inter-Church Council<\/a> (WICC), CCJC will undertake a pilot project to run and evaluate a Victim Impact Program with federally sentenced women in 2016.<\/li><li><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>*Youth Victim Impact Program<\/strong><\/span>: In 2016, CCJC will continue to connect with stakeholders in order to develop a project that makes use of victim impact program tools to help at-risk youth build social and emotional skills.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/h9AVUDjNgXg\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p><h3>Why focus on empathy?<\/h3><p>Empathy is the experience of understanding another person's condition, emotions, and thoughts from their perspective. Empathy helps people overcome a self-centered worldview. A deficit of empathy is linked to aggression and is one of the core ingredients in dysfunctional relationships. The Empathy Project will work with incarcerated people through an educational program focusing on the impact their crime has had on others. This education in victim impact will improve deficits in empathy, with the goal of improving participants\u2019 social outcomes upon release from prison. The empathy cultivated through courses inside of correctional facilities will be further developed, supported, and \u201clived\u201d through a complementary program delivered by volunteers in communities. The result of this project is a comprehensive evaluation report of CoSA in Canada.<\/p><p>Circles of Support and Accountability (CoSA) is a community-based reintegration program, grounded in restorative justice principles, that holds sex offender\u2019s accountable for the harm they have caused while assisting with their task of re-entry into communities at the end of their sentences.<\/p><p>This evaluation is a valuable addition to the growing body of international research on CoSA programs.\u00a0 This report, along with similar research, indicates that CoSA is a critical tool in the re-integration for high-risk, high needs sexual offenders in Canada and plays an essential role in reducing sexual victimization and keeping communities safe.<\/p><p>This evaluation report is the first of its kind for CoSA in Canada in that it provides an in-depth look at the process dynamics of CoSAs through site case studies.\u00a0 The report addresses the question of what goes on in a circle of support and accountability, something that has not previously been examined.\u00a0 It also brings into question the sustainability of CoSA in Canada, given imminent federal funding cuts to many sites on March 31, 2015.<\/p><p>A close look at the inner workings of CoSA reveals a program where dedicated staff and volunteers strive to provide vital integration support to individuals being released from federal correctional facilities into communities across Canada.\u00a0 Most importantly, this report demonstrates how CoSA programs provide a necessary compliment to formalized support structures through a focus on building supportive relationships between recently released offenders, staff, and circle volunteers who understand what\u2019s at stake in holding offenders accountable to the community.<\/p><p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/ccjc.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/COSA-EVALUATION-FINAL-EN.pdf\">Click here to read the full report.<\/a><br \/> <\/em><\/p><p><strong><em>End Release<\/em><\/strong><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"text-align: center;\">CERCLES DE SOUTIEN ET DE RESPONSABILIT\u00c9 (CSR):<br \/> Une approche efficace pour la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 de la communaut\u00e9<\/p><p>POUR PUBLICATION IMM\u00c9DIATE:<br \/> Le 4 f\u00e9vrier 2015<\/p><p>Ottawa, Ontario Canada- Le Conseil des \u00c9glises en Justice et Criminologie (CEJC), en collaboration avec diff\u00e9rents sites CSR \u00e0 travers le Canada, a r\u00e9cemment termin\u00e9 un projet exp\u00e9rimental de cinq ans, subventionn\u00e9 par le Centre National de Pr\u00e9vention du Crime qui d\u00e9pend de la S\u00e9curit\u00e9 publique du Canada. Il tient les contrevenants sexuels responsables du tort caus\u00e9, tandis qu\u2019il les accompagne dans leur effort de r\u00e9int\u00e9gration dans la communaut\u00e9 \u00e0 la fin de leur peine d\u2019emprisonnement.<\/p><p>Cette \u00e9valuation constitue un ajout pr\u00e9cieux \u00e0 l\u2019ensemble des recherches internationales -qui ne cessent de grossir- sur les programmes des CSRs. Ce rapport, ainsi que d\u2019autres recherches similaires, indiquent que les CSRs sont des outils essentiels pour la r\u00e9integration des contrevenants sexuels \u00e0 haut risque et avec des besoins importants, au Canada, et jouent un r\u00f4le majeur dans la r\u00e9duction du nombre de victimes et le maintien de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 de la communaut\u00e9.<\/p><p>Ce rapport d\u2019\u00e9valuation est le premier du genre pour les CSRs du Canada, dans la mesure o\u00f9 il permet un regard approfondi sur les dynamiques d\u00e9velopp\u00e9es dans les CSRs, gr\u00e2ce aux \u00e9tudes de cas dans les diff\u00e9rents sites observ\u00e9s. Le rapport aborde la question de ce qui se passe dans un cercle de soutien et de responsabilit\u00e9, ce qui n\u2019avait pas \u00e9t\u00e9 examin\u00e9 auparavant.
