Le Conseil des \u00e9glises pour la justice et la criminologie <\/strong>est une coalition nationale \u0153cum\u00e9nique \u00e9tablie en 1972 et comprenant onze \u00e9glises fondatrices. Nous faisons la promotion de la responsabilit\u00e9 communautaire en mati\u00e8re de justice, en mettant l\u2019accent sur les besoins des victimes et des d\u00e9linquants, le respect mutuel, la gu\u00e9rison, la responsabilit\u00e9 individuelle et la pr\u00e9vention du crime. C\u2019est principalement gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des initiatives d\u2019enseignement et de d\u00e9veloppement communautaire que nous encourageons des collectivit\u00e9s plus saines et la pr\u00e9vention du crime par l\u2019interm\u00e9diaire de la responsabilit\u00e9 sociale. Le CEJC a d\u00e9montr\u00e9 par ses publications, ses projets pilotes et de nombreuses autres initiatives comment renforcer la communaut\u00e9, tout en comprenant que la vraie justice exige la poursuite d\u2019une approche holistique pour tous. Nous travaillons avec des partenaires aussi bien multiconfessionnels que non religieux, et sommes reconnus au niveau international pour nos contributions aux r\u00e9flexions sur la justice p\u00e9nale.<\/p>\n

1970<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Durant les ann\u00e9es\u00a01970<\/strong>, nous avons distribu\u00e9 \u00e0 plus de 14\u2009000 congr\u00e9gations \u00ab\u2009The Alternatives Kit: A Programme of Community Involvement\u2009\u00bb (La trousse des solutions\u00a0: un programme de participation communautaire). Cette trousse encourageait l\u2019enseignement et la participation communautaires, principalement en vue d\u2019accro\u00eetre la sensibilisation et la compr\u00e9hension de certains probl\u00e8mes de notre syst\u00e8me de justice p\u00e9nale, et d\u2019offrir des solutions potentielles. Dans les ann\u00e9es\u00a01980<\/strong>, le CEJC, ainsi que les Associations nationales int\u00e9ress\u00e9es \u00e0 la justice criminelle, a jou\u00e9 un r\u00f4le d\u00e9terminant dans l\u2019organisation d\u2019une importante conf\u00e9rence sur la r\u00e9conciliation en tant que principe de justice, et la production d\u2019une vid\u00e9o \u00e9ducative intitul\u00e9e \u00ab\u2009Reconciliation: Experiencing Justice\u2009\u00bb (La r\u00e9conciliation\u00a0: \u00e0 la d\u00e9couverte de la justice). Au cours des ann\u00e9es\u00a01990<\/strong>, nous avons continu\u00e9 \u00e0 contribuer \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9laboration de politiques en participant \u00e0 des consultations sur diverses questions li\u00e9es \u00e0 la justice p\u00e9nale. C\u2019est durant cette d\u00e9cennie que le CEJC a mis en place le projet pilote du programme de justice collaborative<\/a> qui est maintenant reconnu pour avoir instaur\u00e9 des mesures r\u00e9paratrices en r\u00e9ponse aux crimes graves. Au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es\u00a02000<\/strong>, nous avons continu\u00e9 \u00e0 remplir notre mission et \u00e0 chercher des moyens cr\u00e9atifs de nous adresser au public, tout en encourageant la participation communautaire en mati\u00e8re de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 publique. Nous avons cr\u00e9\u00e9 le poste de \u00ab\u2009Pr\u00e9sident de r\u00e9flexion communautaire sur la justice\u2009\u00bb afin d\u2019encourager une nouvelle conversation publique sur ce qu\u2019est la justice. Dirig\u00e9e par Lorraine Berzins, cette initiative consid\u00e9rait l\u2019art comme moyen de communiquer avec le public. Nous avons parrain\u00e9 la production de la pi\u00e8ce de th\u00e9\u00e2tre \u00ab\u2009Crime on Broadway\u2009\u00bb (Crime sur Broadway), cr\u00e9\u00e9 le \u00ab\u2009Justice Storytelling Quilt<\/a>\u2009\u00bb (La courtepointe des r\u00e9cits de la justice) et lanc\u00e9 le projet \u00ab\u2009Arts\u2019 Tools For Justice\u2009\u00bb (Les outils de l\u2019art pour la justice). En 2008, le CEJC a contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 un projet pilote national sur cinq ans pour les Cercles de soutien et de responsabilit\u00e9<\/a> (CoSA), visant \u00e0 promouvoir un programme se basant sur les principes de la justice r\u00e9paratrice. Le projet \u00e9tait financ\u00e9 par le Centre national de pr\u00e9vention du crime (CNPC) et les r\u00e9sultats ont fourni des \u00e9l\u00e9ments pr\u00e9cieux au corpus croissant de la recherche internationale sur les programmes CoSA. \"\"<\/a>The Church Council on Justice and Corrections (ccjc.ca<\/a>)\u00a0<\/strong>is a national faith-based coalition of eleven founding churches incorporated in 1972. We promote community responsibility for justice with an emphasis on addressing the needs of victims and offenders, mutual respect, healing, individual accountability, and crime prevention. It is primarily by education and community development initiatives that we foster healthier communities and crime prevention through social responsibility. CCJC has demonstrated in publications, pilot projects and numerous other initiatives how to strengthen community through its understanding that real justice requires the pursuit of wholeness for all. We work with both multi-faith and non-religious partners and have achieved international recognition for our contributions to creative thinking about criminal justice.<\/p>

During the\u00a01970s<\/strong> we widely distributed the 'Alternatives Kit: A Programme of Community Involvement', to over 14,000 congregations. This kit promoted community education and involvement, primarily designed to increase awareness and understanding about some problems with our criminal justice system and possible solutions.<\/p>

In the\u00a01980's<\/strong>, CCJC played a major role in the campaign against the death penalty in Canada. CCJC also played a leadership role, along with the National Associations Active in Criminal Justice, in hosting a major conference about reconciliation as a principle of justice and producing an educational video titled \"Reconciliation: Experiencing Justice\". We provided communities with resources on different issues, including publications such as 'Dialogue on Crime and Punishment' and 'Dialogue on Crime Prevention, Focus on Youth', the kits \u201cFamily Violence in a Patriarchal Culture<\/a>\u201d and \u201cFire in the Rose<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>

During the\u00a01990's<\/strong>, we continued to contribute to policy making by participating in consultations on various ciminal justice issues. It was during this decade that CCJC implemented the pilot\u00a0Collaborative Justice Program<\/a>, which is now recognized for pioneering restorative responses to serious crime. We also published \u201cPersonal Empowerment for Stronger Relationships\u201d and \u201cSatisfying Justice<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>

During the early 2000's<\/strong> we continued to fulfill our mission and to search for creative ways to reach out to the public, encouraging community involvement in matters of public safety. We created the position \u201cCommunity Chair of Justice\u201d to foster a new public conversation about what justice is. Staffed by Lorraine Berzins, this initiative included emphasizing art as a means to communicate with the public. We sponsored the production of the theatrical play \u201cCrime on Broadway<\/a>\u201d, created the \u201cJustice Storytelling Quilt<\/a>\u201d and initiated the project \u201cArts\u2019 Tools For Justice\u201d. In addition, we sponsored various forums and continued to participate in consultations, as well as reforms to the Youth Criminal Justice Act.<\/p>
